The first of many complaints
I kinda feel like an old man sometimes, especially when looking at tech. I struggle to keep up in all of these fields that I used to know everything about. This is probably not the last time I'll complain about this specifically, but I just gotta say it.
I hate modern remasters of recently released video games!
Like, if you wanna go back and remaster the OG Star Wars: Jedi games (looking at you Nightdive Studios) that's awesome! The first game in that series, Dark Forces, was released in like 1995 or something. It was a great game then, and a remastered, modern version I can actually play on modern windows/linux is great. It brings me back to my childhood. Even if you went to the rest of the series, ending with Jedi Academy in, what, like 2003/2004, those games look terrible.
But why in the world do we need a remaster of the Witcher 3!? I mean, it may not look as good as other, more modern, games, but it's still a good looking game. And I know you can look at it and say, "But Big Jake, that's like more than a decade ago, it deserves a remaster!" NO! I don't buy it! Or should I say I won't buy it! Witcher 3 was a great game, I spent a lot of hours on it, but cmon, lets pick some games that don't run on modern windows any more.
Another good example, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, 2012 or something, the remaster barely looks different, and it certainly doesn't run any better.
I know a lot of old games are difficult now because it's hard to track down the people / companies that own them, or the rights to them. I know that these games are some of the biggest of the last generation of video games. I want to be clear, I'm not against these games. I enjoyed these games. Great games. Pretty much every game since 2010 still runs on my computer, and even some older than that, and Steam has released a lot of old games with partial or full emulation so they run on modern OS (looking at you Kohan, 2001/2002).
Maybe it's a console thing? There's probably money in it because people are buying the same game over and over again (looking at you Skyrim, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2025).
I guess what I'm really trying to say is, I wish there were more remaster companies going after old games. Nightdive is doing their best, and I've loved playing Dark Forces, the System Shock games, OG Turok, etc. and maybe if not that old, then at least target the early 2000s, like OG Guitar Hero, Far Cry, Max Payne, OG Half Life, OG Deus Ex, IGI, and now I feel bad for naming games specifically, because I know I've missed a few, but I'm not spending a bunch of time thinking about the old games I used to enjoy.
