4th person Pronouns
I love English, it's such a complicated language. So many different rules, and exceptions to the rules, and then exceptions to the exceptions to the rules. It's just so much fun. I've learned a couple of other languages like Spanish, and Korean, and while each is unique in their own way, nothing really beats the fluidity and creativity of English.
I watched a video online, and they proposed that the word "Chat" might be the worlds first ever usage of a 4th person pronoun. Kids in the newer generations use it all the time, imitating live stream influencers. My favorite is the expression, "Chat, is this even real?" in completely real world, not being recorded or streamed, language.
What a time to be alive to see how language and culture is being influenced! For me, I always love to see how things change. So many people are against it, and I don't understand. Why would we want our language or culture to stagnate? "That's not the way we did it back in my day", or "These young people don't know how to speak proper English". Who decides what's proper or not? It's certainly not English teachers, try as they might. Communication is about understanding, and as long as both parties understand what the other is saying, why does it matter the exact words used? When someone says, "Chat, is this even real", you don't have to know who chat is, but the intonation, situation, and parts you do know is enough to understand what's being said. Even when you use the same expression for different meanings, there is enough other context to understand.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, who would've ever thought we would ever need 4th person pronouns, yet here we are. I wonder what crazy thing people are going to come up with next?
